About Us History of The Sweet Tooth The dynamic duo of mother-daughter team, Cathy Strange and Sara Strange Woodford Opened March 14, 2005 Cathy and Sara have always been very close, acting more like best friends than mother and daughter. By the time Sara graduated from culinary school, Cathy was, once again, making bourbon balls and other candies for sale from her home. Following her mom's lead, Sara started to make cakes, pies and cookies from her home. Cathy and Sara had booths at local holiday craft shows to showcase their products. They stuffed mail boxes and relied on word of mouth to alert customers to their budding business. After the 2003 crazy holiday season of working twelve hour days at Lily's Restaurant, six hours a day fill her own cake orders from her home kitchen and working local holiday craft shows on the weekends, Sara knew it was time to start thinking about going out on her own. Luckily she wasn't on her own. Cathy was right beside her working just as hard on their joint dream: The Sweet Tooth. In an attempt to keep startup costs down, Sara started shopping auctions and filling her garage with used restaurant equipment. In the Fall of 2004 Sara left Lily's to prepare for another hectic holiday season baking from her home and traveling to local craft shows with Cathy. In addition, the restaurant community started to take notice and The Sweet Tooth took on its first wholesale account. With the customer base Cathy and Sara had developed over the years and the growing wholesale market, The Sweet Tooth open its doors to the public on March 14, 2005. It was not easy at first. The bills kept coming, the sales were slow at first and mother and daughter butted heads. But their mutual love for cooking, respect for each other, and the warm embrace of the community kept them going. Their passion for fresh ingredients, original recipes and customer service makes a repeat customer of everyone who visits The Sweet Tooth. After graduating from Louisville Collegiate School, Sara attended the University of Kentucky, majoring in history. Finally in 1990 she turned her hobby into a business and launched The Bourbon Ball. The Bourbon Ball started in Cathyıs home with the whole family pitching in, however it quickly out grew the space. In 1995 Cathy chose to sell her successful, yet all consuming business, to spend more time with her two daughters. Cathy again excelled in sales, this time working in pharmaceuticals. Although at the top of her game in the field, she missed working in the kitchen and the happiness she brought to others. 3110 Frankfort Ave. Louisville, KY 40207 Phone: (502) 895-4554 Tuesday-Thursday: 11 AM - 5 PM Friday- Saturday: 11 AM - 10 PM |
